In Kano, APC legislators oppose Governor Yusuf’s abolition of five Emirates, urging respect for the separation of powers to maintain democratic integrity and peace.

Kano State’s House of Assembly members from the All Progressives Congress (APC) have firmly opposed Governor Abba Yusuf’s decision to abolish the five Emirates.

They are calling for adherence to the principle of separation of powers and for the Governor to refrain from overstepping his executive authority.

Respect for Separation of Powers
In a statement issued by their leader, Ayuba Labaran Durun, the APC legislators stressed the necessity for Governor Yusuf to respect the boundaries between the different branches of government.

Durun emphasised that the Governor’s unilateral decisions undermine the democratic framework and urged for a more collaborative approach.

The APC lawmakers highlighted that their rejection of the Emirate abolition is in direct response to the demands of their constituents.

They conveyed their constituents’ desire to preserve the traditional structure and warned against executive overreach.

The legislators praised the judiciary and security forces for their roles in upholding the rule of law and restoring peace in the state. Their efforts were recognised as essential in maintaining stability and order amid political tensions.

The Lawmakers also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his dedication to maintaining the separation of powers.

The APC members acknowledged his significant contributions to ensuring peace and stability both in Kano State and across Nigeria.

The APC Assembly members stressed that the three branches of government must work collaboratively and respect one another’s roles. They highlighted the need for checks and balances to prevent unilateral decisions that could destabilise the state’s governance.

The legislators urged for a collective effort to build a future where justice, peace, and prosperity are paramount, and the rights and dignity of all citizens are respected.

The APC legislators reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that Kano State adheres to democratic principles. They emphasised that the survival of democracy depends on the respect for the separation of powers and the collaborative efforts of all government branches.
