The House of Representatives Committee on Interior has officially dispelled lingering scepticism over the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, following an extensive oversight inspection of the project’s current phase.

Committee Chairman Abdullah Ali Ahmed, who toured the site alongside Minister of Works Senator Dave Umahi, declared that the contractor’s execution speed and build quality have far exceeded parliamentary expectations. “We anticipated an interminable timeline, yet the pace we have witnessed unequivocally clears our doubts. From a construction engineering perspective, the standards are top-notch,” Mr Ahmed remarked. He specifically commended Hitech Construction Company for demonstrating robust capacity on the complex mandate.

Echoing this sentiment, APC South-South spokesman Dr Samuel Mamuyon projected that the coastal artery would endure for up to two centuries. Describing it as a generational gift, he applauded President Bola Tinubu’s developmental vision and praised Mr Umahi for championing the viability of concrete pavement technology in Nigeria.

Presidential aide Chioma Nweze thanked the National Assembly for its bipartisan support, underscoring how the highway—alongside concurrent works—is strategically designed to interlink every region of the federation. Works Committee member Bola Ajilesoro labelled the initiative a transformative legacy project, affirming that Mr Umahi is unequivocally the right leader for the ministry’s current trajectory.

The inspection has effectively transformed early criticism into commendation, cementing the coastal highway’s status as a flagship infrastructure programme under the current administration.
