In a decisive move to protect students and educators, the Kogi State Government has announced a temporary closure of all schools until February 16, 2026. This measure is based on credible intelligence aimed at safeguarding pupils, teachers, and educational institutions.

Reuben Jimoh, Chairman of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) in Kogi State, confirmed that the midterm break has been advanced to serve as an emergency lockdown.

Proactive Approach to Safety

Speaking to reporters in Lokoja, Kingsley Fanwo, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, clarified that the decision was made out of a sense of responsibility rather than panic. “We are acting proactively to prevent avoidable incidents. The safety of our children, teachers, and educational institutions is non-negotiable,” Fanwo asserted, underscoring the administration’s commitment to prioritising lives while ensuring the continuity of governance and education.

Governor Usman Ododo has directed all relevant agencies to implement necessary measures to ensure a swift return to academic activities once it is deemed safe, thereby minimising disruption to the state’s educational calendar.

Collaboration with Security Agencies

Fanwo praised the security agencies for their timely and actionable intelligence, highlighting the effectiveness of Kogi’s security architecture. “We are fully on top of the situation, with security agencies working tirelessly to identify and neutralise criminal hideouts,” he assured the public.

This proactive response reflects the Kogi State Government’s commitment to fostering a safe educational environment, demonstrating a collaborative effort between educational authorities and security forces.
