Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, has ordered the immediate suspension of all mining activities across the state, following credible security reports that threaten its prevailing peace.

A new task force will be constituted to oversee safety for responsible operations once the threats are neutralised, according to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Gebon Kataps. The directive mandates all local government councils and traditional rulers to enforce strict compliance.

Kataps warned that suspected violations must be promptly reported to the nearest security establishment, adding that the government would view any breach with serious consequences.

The state government has scheduled a meeting with artisanal miners next week to brief them on updated security protocols and vigilance requirements. The administration reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, stressing that mining would only resume under a regulated and secure framework.

Citizens have been urged to cooperate fully with security agencies and report any suspicious activities, the statement concluded.
