A coalition based in Southern Kaduna has issued a stern warning to political actors, urging them to refrain from involving the region in what it deems the “personal legal battle” of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. The group insists that ongoing anti-corruption investigations must be allowed to proceed without regional interference.

The Coalition of Southern Kaduna Progressive Minds released this statement in response to a series of solidarity rallies held in Kafanchan, where supporters of El-Rufai gathered to demonstrate against investigations reportedly undertaken by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

In a formal statement signed by its Chairman, Jehu Dogo, and Secretary, Najib Mohammed, the coalition characterised these protests as “misdirected and politically motivated.” They argue that federal investigative processes cannot be swayed by street demonstrations.

“Street protests cannot override constitutional investigations. If there are grievances, they should be directed to the appropriate institutions in Abuja, not staged in Southern Kaduna,” the statement emphasised.

The coalition voiced its unwavering support for anti-corruption institutions, highlighting that accountability and due process are fundamental tenets of democracy. “No individual, regardless of their status or former office, is above the law. The rule of law must take precedence over sentiment and orchestrated mobilisation,” it asserted.

While acknowledging the constitutional right to peaceful protest, the coalition cautioned against efforts to depict Southern Kaduna as a battleground for reputational disputes. They urged local youths and stakeholders to focus on development priorities and resist attempts to politicise the region.

“Southern Kaduna has its own history and its own future. It must not be drawn into matters that belong within the jurisdiction of federal anti-graft agencies,” the statement concluded.

The coalition’s call for restraint comes at a critical time, as the region faces various socio-economic challenges. Leaders stress the importance of unity and development over political squabbles, urging residents to remain vigilant against distractions that could hinder progress.

As the investigations continue, the coalition remains committed to advocating for transparency and integrity in governance. They believe that the focus should be on building a stronger, more resilient Southern Kaduna that prioritises the welfare of its citizens over political affiliations.

In light of these developments, the coalition calls upon all stakeholders, community leaders, and the general populace to engage in constructive dialogues aimed at fostering peace and development within the region. They encourage collaboration with federal institutions to ensure that justice is served without bias or regional prejudice.

The coalition’s stance reflects a broader sentiment within Southern Kaduna, where residents are increasingly aware of the need for a unified approach to governance and accountability. By distancing the region from El-Rufai’s legal struggles, the coalition hopes to preserve the integrity and reputation of Southern Kaduna while promoting a culture of accountability and good governance.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, the coalition is poised to monitor developments closely. They remain committed to advocating for the interests of the Southern Kaduna populace, ensuring that their voices are heard in the corridors of power.

In conclusion, the Coalition of Southern Kaduna Progressive Minds has made it clear that the region will not be a pawn in the political games of the powerful. Their call for a focus on development and accountability serves as a reminder that true progress can only be achieved when the rule of law is upheld and the interests of the people are prioritised.

As such, they invite all residents of Southern Kaduna to join them in this important mission, ensuring that the region’s future is determined by its people, free from the shadows of political machinations.
