The Katsina State Police Command has detained seven suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate, recovering stolen items and weapons used in their operations.
In a statement issued on Sunday in Katsina, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed that the arrests followed a report lodged at the Central Police Station on June 19 at about 2:00 a.m., detailing a break-in at a residence in Unwala Quarters. The suspects, armed with cutlasses and clubs, allegedly attacked the occupants and made off with two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, and two power banks.
Acting on the report, police operatives launched an intelligence-led investigation that swiftly led to the apprehension of the seven suspects, all of whom confessed during interrogation. A subsequent search of their hideouts yielded five stolen mobile phones, two power banks, two cutlasses, a pinch bar used for housebreaking, a flashlight, and a bunch of master keys.
Mr Sadiq-Aliyu further stated that the suspects have identified four alleged accomplices still at large, believed to be involved in the disposal of stolen property. He assured that efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing gang members and recover the remaining loot.
The police spokesman confirmed that all detained suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
