Katsina Monarch Removed for Alleged Katsina Monarch Removed for Alleged Kidnapping Sponsorship Sponsorship
Iliya Dakaci, the Village Head of Mantau in the Yam-Maulu community within Katsina State’s Baure Local Government Area, has been removed from his position.
The Emir of Daura, Faruq Umar-Faruq, announced this on Tuesday, 20th May 2025.
The emir’s decision, made public in Daura, followed protests from local residents demanding Dakaci’s removal over allegations of his involvement in kidnapping.
Last Wednesday, the community staged a peaceful protest calling for Dakaci’s dismissal, as he also held the role of representative for the District Head of Yan-Maulu.
Protesters alleged that Dakaci had been arrested around eight months ago after being named by suspected kidnappers responsible for the abduction and violation of the family of philanthropist Sidi Usman-Waziri.
The demonstrators accused the ousted monarch of having a direct role in the kidnapping of Zulaihatu, a married woman, and her infant child in 2022, which resulted in a ransom payment of 20 million Naira.
The emir reiterated that the Daura emirate would not condone any form of abuse against its residents, emphasising that the council is accessible to any citizen wishing to file complaints or report injustices.
He remarked: “If anyone feels wronged, even if it’s my own child who is accountable, they should come forward and present their grievance to the emirate.
“This is an emirate that belongs to the people.”
Effective from Monday, 19th May, the emir declared that Dakaci is no longer the village head of Mantau, and a new representative will be appointed to ensure leadership founded on justice and integrity.”
