Governor Abba Kabir-Yusuf has inaugurated the newly constructed Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), a dedicated facility designed to strengthen the state’s capacity to detect and curb communicable disease outbreaks.

The governor commissioned the centre, located within the Infectious Disease Hospital in Kano, on Monday, describing it as a “gigantic health project” conceived and executed by his administration.

The facility will coordinate efforts to control the spread of tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, meningitis and other infectious diseases, with the governor urging health officials to ensure its judicious use for the benefit of Kano’s residents.

“I am commissioning this centre, which is named Kano State Center for Disease Control, to control all communicable diseases such as AIDS, tuberculosis, HIV and meningitis,” Mr Yusuf said.

He expressed appreciation to development partners and Ministry of Health officials for their contributions to the project.

Commissioner: Governor Fulfils Promise

Earlier, Commissioner for Health Abubakar Labaran-Yusuf said the governor had fulfilled his pledge to establish a disease control centre for the state, emphasising its importance for effective outbreak management.

Development partners including the World Health Organization, the African Field Epidemiology Network, FHI 360, Core Group, FCDO, Lafiya and eHealth Africa played significant roles in the centre’s establishment, the commissioner added.
