The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a suspected drug peddler following a raid at the Audu Bako Secretariat in Kano metropolis.

The suspect was detained during “Operation Sharar Mafaka,” an ongoing crackdown targeting illicit drug hotspots in the state.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by NDLEA spokesman Sadiq Maigatari, the arrest was based on credible intelligence that led operatives to dislodge drug joints operating within the government secretariat.

“On sighting NDLEA officers, the suspect climbed to the second floor of a building within the secretariat and jumped from behind the structure in an attempt to evade arrest,” Mr Maigatari said.

Despite the escape attempt, operatives detained the suspect and recovered several parcels of cannabis from his possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had been actively peddling drugs for more than two years.

The NDLEA Commander, Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, warned that government establishments would no longer be allowed to serve as hideouts for criminal activity.

“This is a warning to all those who think government establishments can be used as a hideout for their illicit dealings,” he said. “Operation Sharar Mafaka remains ongoing as the agency intensifies efforts to rid Kano State of drug distribution points and bring offenders to justice.”
