The Kaduna State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has called for renewed collaboration with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) during a courtesy visit to the NUJ chairman, Comrade AbdulGafar Alabelewe, on Thursday.
Led by SWAN Vice Chairman Mike Odeh James, the delegation congratulated Alabelewe on his recent election as NUJ chairman and emphasized the need for unity between the two organizations.
“We look forward to the cordial relationship NUJ and SWAN had in the past,” James stated, adding that SWAN remains open to all journalists and is eager to partner with the NUJ.
He also urged the chairman to revive sporting activities within the NUJ, proposing that SWAN take charge of managing the sporting equipment.
In response, Alabelewe pledged to renew his membership with SWAN and assured the delegation of his commitment to resolving any lingering issues between the two groups.
“We need to end this crisis once and for all. We will take it up to ensure the matter is resolved at the national level,” the NUJ chairman said.
He also promised to reintroduce sports activities within the NUJ, highlighting the importance of physical fitness for journalists.
The SWAN delegation included Secretary Okpani Jacob Onjewu Dickson, Treasurer Juliet Ekwenugo, and members Elder Sam Otitolaye, Amina Anebi, and AbdulGaniyu Alabi. Kaduna NUJ Secretary Comrade Gambo Santos was also present to receive the visitors.
