Alhaji Abubakar Buba, the Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, announced that the administration of Governor Uba Sani has inaugurated a lithium processing plant located in Kangimi village, along the Kaduna-Jos Road. This facility marks a significant milestone as the first of its kind in Nigeria.
According to Buba, the newly established lithium plant has an impressive production capacity, capable of generating over 30,000 tonnes of lithium daily.
During a quarterly ministerial press briefing in Kaduna, Buba emphasized that the state is rich in mineral resources, boasting more than 70 types of solid minerals, including lithium, gold, tin, coltan, wolframite, titanium, and iron.
He also revealed that the Kaduna Mining Development Company has secured 18 new mineral titles as part of its efforts. Buba highlighted Governor Sani’s commitment to revitalizing the solid minerals sector, aimed at increasing revenue, creating job opportunities, and curbing the activities of illegal miners in the state by attracting foreign investment.
In addressing environmental concerns and pollution control, the commissioner noted that Kaduna State has formulated a comprehensive climate change policy and a corresponding position statement. He pointed out that Kaduna is the first sub-national entity in Nigeria to produce both documents, stating, “While many states have developed policy documents, Kaduna State stands out as the first to present both.”
Furthermore, Buba mentioned that the state has successfully trained and empowered 500 youths and women in briquette production, in collaboration with the Kaduna Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) project.
