Hundreds of residents from Jimrawa town in Kauran Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State took to the streets of Gusau on Thursday, protesting two years of government neglect amid worsening insecurity.

The demonstrators, mostly displaced farmers, said they had been forced to abandon their homes and farmlands due to persistent attacks by armed bandits.

Despite the ongoing rainy season, the residents say they are unable to return to their ancestral lands. They claim their communities remain under the control of armed groups, while the government has failed to intervene.

Holding placards and chanting slogans, the protesters accused Governor Dauda Lawal of turning a blind eye to their plight. Many broke down in tears as they recounted the loss of loved ones, homes, and livelihoods.

“Jimrawa has become a ghost town,” said one of the protest leaders. “We are tired of empty promises while our people suffer in silence.”

They criticised the governor for prioritising political engagements and high-profile events over the safety and welfare of rural citizens.

“What is the use of governance if we can’t live on our land or grow our food?” asked another protester.

“Our children are out of school, our wives are hungry, and our farms are occupied by criminals.”
