The daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Iyabo Obasanjo, has met with President Bola Tinubu and reaffirmed her intention to run for governor of Ogun State in 2027.

Obasanjo, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, said her ambition remains firm, stressing that it is “not a fluke” and that she is fully committed to the race.

During the meeting in Lagos just before Tinubu set out to commission projects, she also expressed support for the president’s policies, describing recent economic reforms as positive for the country.

“I think there is a lot going on, positively,” she said, pointing to “the stabilisation of the naira” as a key achievement.

She added that economic stability helps Nigerians plan better, saying, “When people can predict income and exports, things get better,” while noting that ongoing reforms are beginning to show results.

Obasanjo also highlighted infrastructure projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road, describing it as “a developmental move that will help to generate income” and ease congestion on major routes like the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The former Ogun Central senator said her governorship ambition is driven by a desire to build on existing progress in the state, especially in industry, agriculture and job creation.

She previously served as Ogun State commissioner for health and later represented Ogun Central in the Senate, experiences she said have prepared her for leadership.

Obasanjo has also pledged to focus on improving living conditions and empowering residents if elected, as she seeks to become the first female governor of Ogun State.

Her meeting with Tinubu is seen as part of ongoing consultations as aspirants position themselves ahead of party primaries and the 2027 general election.
