The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reinstated four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi States, complying with court judgments that mandated their restoration.

In a statement issued on Friday, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of its Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Kudu Haruna, confirmed that three constituencies would be restored in Delta State—Abraka, Isoko North II, and Ughelli South II—while Kogi State regains the Yagba West II State Constituency .

Political parties have been directed to conduct primaries for the newly restored constituencies between 21 and 25 August 2026 . This timeline coincides with the period already scheduled for primaries for bye-elections in several other constituencies, including the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency in Delta State, and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State .

Elections for all affected constituencies have been fixed for 19 September 2026 . The Commission clarified that all other timelines and activities stipulated in the previously published revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election will apply to the restored constituencies .

INEC has urged political parties to submit notices of their primaries to the Commission before the scheduled dates, reaffirming its commitment to conducting credible, inclusive, and transparent electoral processes .
