INEC Benue Office Attacked and Burnt Down by Protesters

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Benue State, Professor Sam Egwu, has reported that the Local Government Area office in Sankara, the headquarters of Ukum Local Government Area, was attacked and set ablaze by protesters.

The incident took place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Youths in the area, protesting against the activities of bandits, targeted various government facilities, including those of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

While there were no casualties reported, the building sustained extensive damage. Among the destroyed items were office furniture, 10 electric generators, 300 ballot boxes, and 270 voting cubicles.

Security agencies have been alerted to the incident and have already deployed personnel to the area.
