The immediate past Chairman of Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Hon. Nasara Rabo, has declared that he will not be contesting in the 2027 general elections.
Rabo, who was widely speculated to be eyeing the Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, said his decision was borne out of the impressive performance of the incumbent lawmaker.
In an interview with The PUNCH on Thursday, the former council boss explained that it would amount to unnecessary political rivalry to challenge someone who, in his view, is already delivering on the mandate.
“The office I may have wished to contest for is the Kachia/Kagarko Federal Constituency seat. But honestly, the man in office is doing very well. All I can do is to support him to do more,” Rabo said.
He added that politics should not be seen as a do-or-die affair but as an avenue to serve the people, stressing that he preferred to work with and support credible leaders rather than engage in contests that could divide the constituency.
The former chairman, who served between 2018 and 2021, noted that he would remain active in grassroots mobilization and community development initiatives even though he would not be on the ballot in 2027.
Rabo also urged politicians in Southern Kaduna to place the interest of the people above personal ambition, pointing out that “when leaders are doing well, the best thing to do is to strengthen their hands and encourage them.”
PUNCH reports that, his decision is expected to calm speculations within the ruling and opposition parties in the zone, where alignments and consultations ahead of the 2027 polls are already gaining momentum.
