John Mikel Obi believes he was a bit underrated during his time at Premier League giants, Chelsea.
Mikel joined Chelsea in 2006 after starring for Nigeria’s U-20 side at the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup in the Netherlands.
The midfielder was named the second best player at the tournament behind Lionel Messi.
At Chelsea, he was converted into a defensive midfielder by Jose Mourinho and managed just one goal in 249 league appearances during his time at West London.
“ I don’t know, I think, I think for mostly for the Chelsea fans, I think,”Mikel said on Dubai Eye 103.9 radio
“Yeah, they probably think I was, you know, I’m a bit underrated. But it’s not something that really got to me.
“I mean, I was just, they’re doing my work, you know, enjoying playing football and, you know, enjoying being at the club.
“But when it comes down to the national team, I was always someone who is more, you can look at me as someone who was underrated. Well, obviously at Chelsea, you know, like the big names, John Terry, Lampard, Drogba, all these guys obviously were always taking the glory every weekend.
“So for us, some of the players, it was a bit of, we were there doing our bit to help the club win. We worked as a team. not everybody was getting the credits that they deserve.”
