Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has declared that his administration has not taken out any loans since assuming office, even as the state continues to service billions of naira in debt inherited from previous governments.

The Governor made the assertion on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, where he fielded questions on his administration’s fiscal strategy and the state’s rising revenue profile.

Governor Sani revealed that Kaduna State currently allocates approximately ₦6.7 billion monthly to service existing debts—all of which, he stressed, were contracted before his tenure.

“Since I became governor, I have not borrowed one kobo,” Sani stated emphatically.

He attributed the debt-free record to disciplined financial management and rigorous prioritisation of public expenditure.

“It is about being prudent. It is about selecting—or being very careful in—where you invest the money,” he explained.

Governor Highlights Key Achievements Across Sectors

Beyond fiscal prudence, Governor Sani described his administration as successful, pointing to notable progress in agriculture, education, infrastructure, skills development, and security.

On education, he disclosed that the state had identified approximately 550,000 out-of-school children through a comprehensive household-mapping exercise. More than 300,000 of those children have since been reintegrated into classrooms, with the Governor describing the initiative as an ongoing effort.

He added that the data-driven approach was enabling the state to design more targeted interventions for vulnerable children, improving the effectiveness of its education programmes.
