Hon. Mukhtar Chawai, the Representative for Kauru Federal Constituency, on Tuesday awarded scholarships to 103 students from his constituency.
The students, chosen from the eleven wards in the constituency, excelled in a rigorous selection process.
Dr. Ibrahim Danmaraya, Chairman of the Scholarship Bursary/Committee, highlighted Mukhtar’s dedication to youth education.
“This initiative reflects his commitment to building intellectual capacity among our youth,” Danmaraya stated.
The scholarship program, launched during Mukhtar’s first term in 2015, continues to thrive despite Nigeria’s challenging socio-economic climate.
“Despite financial constraints, Hon. Mukhtar remains devoted to his campaign promise of supporting higher education,” Danmaraya noted. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts between the community and elected representatives to achieve educational goals.
Danmaraya assured that the selection process was merit-based, urging recipients to use their stipends wisely.
“Your success will strengthen the foundation of this great initiative,” he added.
Hon. Musa Waziri, former Chairman of Kauru Local Government Area, represented Mukhtar at the event. “This initiative aims to enhance the quality of education, enabling our students to compete globally,” Waziri said.
He encouraged students to focus on their studies and avoid negative influences.
Waziri announced plans for increased collaboration with the State House of Assembly Member and the Council Chairman to expand the scholarship program. Professors Yohanna Tella and Abdulkadir Tukur from Kaduna State University urged students to work hard and uphold the integrity of their education.
“We expect you to be exemplary ambassadors, free from exam malpractices,” they advised.
The professors also recommended documenting the initiative for public guidance, promoting unity, and overcoming human differences.
