In a tragic turn of events, gunmen believed to be kidnappers have fatally shot two revered traditional rulers in Ekiti State, while another narrowly escaped the same fate.
Travelling along the Oke-Ako road in Ikole Local Government Area, the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba David Babatunde Ogunsakin, and the Onimojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola, fell victim to the assailants.
The three monarchs, returning from a security summit in Irele Ekiti, encountered the gunmen’s ambush, leaving them in a dire situation.
Miraculously, the Alara of Ara Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, managed to evade the attackers’ bullets, fleeing into the wilderness.
Prince Micheal Ogungbemi, Chairman of Ajoni Local Council Development Area, lamented the loss, confirming the nefarious attack.
Local security forces, alongside the Amotekun corps, swiftly mobilised to apprehend the culprits and bring them to justice.
Secretary of the Majority Obas of Ekiti Land (MOBEL) and Onikun of Ikun-Ekiti, Oba Olatunde David Olushola, vehemently condemned the heinous act, urging the government to overhaul the security apparatus to curb the escalating insecurity plaguing the region.
The untimely demise of these revered figures has cast a sombre shadow over Ekiti State, underscoring the pressing need for enhanced security measures to safeguard its citizens and leaders alike.
