A Lugbe Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a security guard, Kabiru Yunusa, to 12 months imprisonment for stealing two power generators.

Yunusa, 32, who has no fixed address, had pleaded guilty to theft, and begged for leniency.

The Judge, Mr Aliyu Kagarko, however, gave him an option of N50,000 fine and warned him to desist from crime.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Mr Stanley Nwaforaku, told the court that the complainant, Mr Oluruwuju Toyin of Finest Event 7, Catherina Street, Zone 7, Dutse Alhaji, Abuja, apprehended the convict.

Nwaforaku said the complainant apprehended and brought the convict to the Durumi Police Station on Dec. 26.

The prosecutor told the court that, on Dec. 23, the complainant contracted the convict, as a security guard, to secure decorations and generators at Area 1 Roundabout.

He said the convict stole two generators valued at N670, 000 and used in powering the decorations, which he was employed to secure.

The prosecutor said the convict ran to an unknown destination but the complainant later caught him and brought him.

He said that during police interrogation and investigation, the convict confessed to the crime and the generators were recovered from him

Nwaforaku told the court that the offence contravened Section 289 of the Penal Code
