A Coalition of women group in the Niger Delta has commended the management of the Niger Delta Development Commision (NDDC) over its poverty eradication policies in the area.
The group pledged its support to the Managing Director of NDDC, Dr. Sam Ogbuku, describing him as a “transparent and focused leader”.
The women under the auspices of Coalition of Niger Delta Women Leaders, made their position known in a statement in Yenagoa on Sunday.
The statement was jointly signed by Lady Annkio Briggs, National Leader, and Amb. Tombra Kiloprite, Secretary.
They urged stakeholders in the region to give their support to the NDDC board to enable them to succeed in their given assignments.
The group, however, warned that it would not tolerate any attempt by anyone to run down the leadership of the commission.
The coalition noted that this was the first time visionary leadership had been entrusted with the management of NDDC, saying “this is the first-time women are carried along in the scheme of things in the commission”.
They called on well-meaning people of the region to cooperate with the new board and management to change the previous mistakes.
The group thanked President Bola Tinubu for reappointing Ogbuku as NDDC MD and members of the board who they said were thorough-breed technocrats.
The group reiterated the readiness to partner NDDC on programmes for the development of women in the rural communities.
“Also, we call on Niger Delta people to give the NDDC Board and Management the needed support to succeed.
The group further commended the cooperation amongst NDDC Board and Management, noting that this had so far shown in the fast development of critical infrastructure in the region.
“Their community-based approach is commendable because it is at the community level that we see poverty biting very hard”, the group noted.(NAN)
