Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has officially inaugurated the construction of the 20-kilometer Obajana-Uro-Aku rural road, which will connect various areas within the Lokoja and Adavi local government regions of the state.

This initiative is part of the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), supported by the World Bank Group and other key stakeholders in the agricultural development sector. It marks the first phase of a larger network encompassing over 65 kilometers of rural roads designed to facilitate access to farms, farming communities, and markets, thereby enhancing food security in the state.

During the flag-off ceremony held in Apata, near Obajana, Governor Ododo emphasized the essential role of rural roads in advancing his administration’s development agenda. He stated that these roads would not only improve transportation but also act as a catalyst for economic growth and food security in rural areas.

Governor Ododo urged the communities benefiting from this project to take ownership, while firmly warning contractors involved in the construction to avoid misappropriating funds. He called for a commitment to integrity and professionalism in the execution of the project.

Engineer Abdulmutalib Mohammed, the State Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, highlighted that the project aims to assist farmers by reducing transportation costs and improving accessibility for both farmers and traders.

Engineer Aminu Bodinga, the National Coordinator of RAAMP, represented by Mrs. Joy Amadi, praised Governor Ododo for his steadfast dedication to rural development, which is expected to improve connectivity and access to markets, social services, and opportunities previously inaccessible to rural residents.

Additionally, the State Coordinator of the project, Sheidu Obansa, noted that the network of rural roads would create new opportunities for communities and foster agricultural growth in the state.

Expressing his support, the Olu of Oworo, Muhammed Adoga Baiyerohi, commended Governor Ododo for the road project, stating it would significantly benefit agricultural development and reduce traffic congestion along the Obajana route.

Other traditional leaders also expressed their appreciation for Governor Ododo’s initiative, recognizing its positive impact on rural residents, particularly farmers and traders in the state.
