The Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has announced key cabinet changes, including the appointment of new commissioners and the redeployment of an existing one.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ibraheem Musa, Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo has been appointed Commissioner for Education, while Barrister Gloria Ibrahim has been named Commissioner for Youth Development.
The outgoing Commissioner for Education, Prof. Sani Bello (Mainan Zazzau), has been redeployed to head the newly established Ministry of Information. The changes take immediate effect.
Prof. Sambo, a renowned academic and energy expert, brings decades of experience in the education and energy sectors. He previously served as Vice Chancellor of both Kaduna State University and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. He was also Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria between 2005 and 2012 and once served as Special Adviser to the President on Energy.
An Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), Prof. Sambo has participated in numerous national and international energy and education panels, including the African Union High-Level Panel on Emerging Technologies.
Barrister Gloria Ibrahim, the new Commissioner for Youth Development, is a seasoned legal practitioner and mediator. She holds a law degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and has certifications in negotiation and mediation. She is affiliated with several professional bodies including the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).
Governor Sani expressed confidence in the new appointees, noting that Prof. Sambo is expected to drive reforms in the education sector, with focus on improving access, infrastructure, teacher development, ICT integration, and girl-child education.
On Ibrahim’s appointment, the governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to empowering the youth, urging the new commissioner to initiate innovative programmes that address youth-related challenges in the state.
Governor Sani congratulated both appointees and wished them success in their new roles.
