The Gombe State Government has approved N260 million for the relocation of the Gombe Grain Market to the Dukku Road area, aiming to decongest the city and enhance commercial activity.

Commissioner for Information, Moses Kyari, announced the decision on Wednesday in Gombe while briefing journalists on recent state executive decisions. He disclosed that the state government approved N200 million for infrastructure development, with an additional N60 million contributed by the local government, bringing the total funding to N260 million.

Mr Kyari emphasised that the funding was designed to ensure the project proceeds with due consideration for the livelihoods and interests of affected traders and residents.

The relocation is expected to alleviate traffic congestion, improve commercial management, and provide a more organised trading environment at a more suitable location. The commissioner also noted that the exercise would preserve a historic mosque, which the government plans to retain as a state monument.

He described the decision as part of the administration’s broader strategy to promote orderly urban development, enhance infrastructure, and create a conducive environment for commerce.

According to Mr Kyari, the approvals underscore Governor Muhammadu Inuwa-Yahaya’s commitment to addressing the state’s socio-economic and infrastructure needs. Investments in market development, vocational training, and economic support form part of a wider strategy to strengthen public institutions, improve service delivery, and foster sustainable development.

The commissioner reaffirmed the government’s dedication to policies that deliver direct and positive impacts on residents, while ensuring that public funds are deployed responsibly to drive meaningful development across the state.
