Hon. Danjuma Usman Shiddi, a prominent figure in Nigerian politics and former representative of Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency in the 8th and 9th National Assemblies, has formally resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately. The announcement, made in a letter addressed to the party’s leadership and members, marks a significant development in the political landscape of Taraba State.
Shiddi, who joined the APC in 2020 after a distinguished tenure in the House of Representatives, cited personal aspirations and a redefined vision for the future as the driving factors behind his decision. In his statement, he expressed pride in his contributions to the party, particularly his efforts in galvanizing support for marginalized and underrepresented communities within the constituency. “I joined the APC with high hopes and aspirations, and I’m proud of the significant impact I’ve made,” Shiddi noted, highlighting his role in fostering inclusivity and grassroots mobilization.
The former lawmaker, known for his advocacy on behalf of Wukari and Ibi, urged party supporters to remain calm and avoid taking his departure personally. “This decision is not about the party but about my individual aspirations and vision for the future,” he clarified, seeking to reassure loyalists and mitigate potential unrest. Shiddi’s tenure in the APC was marked by his active engagement in the party’s Area Council, ABGA, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening the party’s presence in the region.
While Shiddi did not disclose specific plans for his political future, he hinted at exploring new opportunities and promised to share details in due time. His optimism about the political prospects for Wukari and Ibi remains strong, as he expressed confidence in continued progress and success in the 2027 elections. “Our efforts will continue to yield positive results, and I remain optimistic about our chances moving forward,” he stated.
Shiddi’s resignation has sparked speculation about his next move, with political analysts suggesting he may align with another party or pursue an independent path. His departure is seen as a potential blow to the APC in Taraba State, given his influence and track record in the constituency. During his time in the National Assembly, Shiddi was recognized for his commitment to constituency projects, including infrastructure development and social welfare initiatives, which earned him significant goodwill among constituents.
In his letter, Shiddi extended gratitude to his colleagues and constituents for their support during his tenure with the APC. “I appreciate the experience and opportunities I’ve had while being part of the APC,” he said, reaffirming his dedication to the betterment of Wukari, Ibi, and Nigeria as a whole. He pledged to continue working tirelessly for the advancement of his community and the nation, regardless of his party affiliation.
As the political landscape in Taraba State evolves, all eyes will be on Shiddi’s next steps and their implications for the APC and the broader electoral dynamics in the lead-up to 2027. His resignation underscores the fluid nature of Nigerian politics, where personal vision and strategic realignments often shape the trajectory of public service.
