Defending champions Liverpool failed to make progress on the Premier League table as the Reds were stunned 3-0 by Nottingham Forest at Anfield Stadium on Saturday evening.

The result further compounded Liverpool’s recent woes, leaving Arne Slot’s team with just one win and six defeats out of their last seven league matches, while Nottingham Forest secured their first league win under new manager Sean Dyche.

Defender Murillo opened the scoring for the visitors in the 33rd minute, firing a low shot past Alisson Becker. Three minutes later, Forest thought they had made it 2-0, but Igor Jesus’ goal was ruled out by VAR for handball.

Forest wasted no time extending the lead after the break when Nicolo Savona slammed home a well-placed assist from Nico Williams inside the opening 60 seconds of the second half.

Morgan Gibbs-White made it 3-0 in the 78th minute as the English forward fired home the ball off a rebounded save by Alisson. This marked the first time in Gibbs-White’s career to have scored in three consecutive Premier League games.

Speaking after the match, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk said, “Overall, we were just not good in terms of battle and second ball challenges. It is not a good moment at this time. We are in a difficult moment, and we have to get out of it.”

He added, “Everyone in the team has to take responsibility, and we need everybody to do their best.”

While Liverpool dropped down to 11th on the table, Chelsea provisionally moved to second on the log following an impressive 2-0 away win at Turf Moor against Burnley.

Pedro Neto put Chelsea in the 37th minute with a clean header from a cross by Jamie Gittens. The Blues left it late to find the back of the net again as Enzo Fernandez fired home a well-driven ball from Marc Guiu in the 88th minute to secure the three points for the visitors.
