A political storm is brewing within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria movement has raised the alarm over what it described as fake and misleading zoning lists making the rounds on social media.

In a statement issued in Kaduna and made available to Elanza News, group member Elba Musa said the PDP has not taken any official position on the micro-zoning of key party offices. He stressed that the documents currently circulating across various online platforms were fabrications designed to mislead party faithful and stir unnecessary controversy.

“The attention of our group has been drawn to certain documents making the rounds on social media purporting to reflect zoning decisions of the PDP,” Musa said firmly. “We categorically state that these lists are not authentic and do not represent the official position of the party.”

According to Musa, the zoning committee of the PDP has not concluded its deliberations on micro-zoning, and members should disregard any claims to the contrary.

He urged patience and discipline among the party’s rank and file, emphasizing that only official pronouncements from recognized channels should be trusted.

For the PDP, zoning remains a delicate but central issue. Over the years, the party has relied on zoning arrangements to balance power between Nigeria’s diverse regions. With the next round of political contests on the horizon, any premature or manipulated list could unsettle the party’s fragile unity.

Fix PDP

The Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria group insists that such sensitive decisions must follow due process.

“Our commitment is to internal democracy,” the group said in its statement. “We believe zoning decisions should be taken with fairness, transparency, and in strict adherence to the constitution of the party.”

The warning comes at a time when rival factions and political opportunists are trying to gain leverage ahead of future elections. Analysts say the circulation of unverified zoning documents could be a strategy by interest groups to test reactions or create confusion within the party’s grassroots.

Party members who spoke to reporters in Kaduna echoed Musa’s concerns. One youth leader described the fake lists as “a deliberate attempt to sow discord where none exists.”

He added that the PDP had already been through turbulent years and could not afford another crisis fueled by misinformation.

Others believe the fake zoning list saga highlights the rising influence of online platforms in shaping political narratives. With social media now a battlefield for political propaganda, false documents can spread rapidly, especially among party loyalists hungry for updates.

“The PDP must step up its communication strategy,” a women’s leader in Plateau State said. “Leaving members in the dark creates a vacuum, and opportunists are exploiting that space.”

The call for patience from Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria has been described as timely. With state congresses and national leadership elections looming, speculation about zoning could create divisions before the official process even begins. Zoning often determines who gets key positions such as national chairman, secretary, or even the presidential ticket, making it a politically charged subject.

Party veterans, however, argue that the PDP has weathered similar storms in the past. They insist that unity must remain the party’s greatest strength if it is to mount a serious challenge in upcoming political contests.

“Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria remains committed to strengthening internal democracy and ensuring that critical decisions such as zoning are handled with due process, fairness, and transparency,” Musa reiterated.

The group’s intervention has sparked conversation among PDP supporters nationwide. Many are calling on the national secretariat to issue clear, official statements on zoning to avoid leaving room for manipulation.

Some members in the North expressed optimism that the party would not allow its internal process to be hijacked. A ward leader in Kano said:

“We know our leaders are wiser than to let fake lists distract us. But we must hear directly from them soon.”

Meanwhile, in the South, grassroots members expressed relief that the group spoke out.

“At least now, people know those lists are fake. We can calm down and wait for the real zoning decisions,” one PDP member in Rivers said.

As Nigeria edges closer to another heated election season, the PDP faces the dual challenge of maintaining unity internally while projecting strength externally. For many observers, how the party handles zoning could determine whether it regains its status as a dominant national force or slips further into factional wrangling.

The Fix PDP, Fix Nigeria group made it clear that protecting the party’s stability was non-negotiable. In its final call, the group urged all loyal members to resist attempts to divide the party. “The PDP’s unity and stability must be preserved as the party prepares for upcoming political contests,” the statement concluded.

For now, the message from Kaduna is clear: ignore the fake zoning lists, stay united, and wait for the official word. Whether the wider PDP membership will heed that advice remains to be seen.
