The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has officially launched construction on the FHA Gateway Estate in Ofada, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, in a move set to boost Nigeria’s housing stock.

The groundbreaking ceremony, which took place on Wednesday, 13th May 2026, was performed by the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Authority, Hon Oyetunde Ojo.

In his address, the FHA chief executive described the event as a significant milestone, noting that the project fulfils a direct mandate from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, issued when the current management assumed office approximately two years ago.

“Today’s event is very significant to us in the Federal Housing Authority, as we again commence the addition of about 200 housing units to our national housing stock,” Hon Ojo said. “This is another step in fulfilling the express mandate given to our management by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”

The development, a tripartite partnership between the FHA, Greenpasture Homes and Akkenog International Company Ltd, will deliver 95 units of two-bedroom and 100 units of three-bedroom terrace duplexes. The FHA will contribute its technical expertise and regulatory oversight to the collaboration.

Hon Ojo emphasised that public-private partnerships (PPP) remain one of the Authority’s core delivery models, adding that Nigeria’s housing solution cannot rest with the government alone. He called for more viable partnerships and reaffirmed the Authority’s readiness to collaborate.

The FHA boss praised President Tinubu’s strides in revolutionising the housing sector, particularly the reconstruction of the Sagamu-Owode road, which runs through the new estate. He urged Nigerians to remain patient.

Earlier, the Executive Director of Estate Services and Chairman of the FHA Groundbreaking Committee, Arc Ezekiel Nya Etok, commended the administration’s housing achievements, suggesting that “Asiwaju houses” may soon become as widely recognised as the Jakande houses of the 1980s.

Arc Peter Okpanachi, FHA’s General Manager for Partnerships, provided an overview of the project, stating that the estate would offer serenity, safety and comfort, becoming a pride for Ogun State.

Pastor Kehinde Akinwunmi Ogunusi, MD/CEO of Akkenog International Company, expressed gratitude to the FHA for the partnership, noting that the thorough selection process pointed to a successful outcome.

The Managing Director of Greenpasture Homes Ltd, Engr Oloyede Oluwale, described the project as a top priority for his firm. “This project represents a strong and visionary public-private partnership involving the Federal Housing Authority, Akkenog International Company Ltd and Greenpasture Homes,” he said. “FHA is providing technical oversight, regulatory guidance, branding and institutional support.”

Engr Oluwale pledged that quality would remain the watchword throughout construction and allayed fears of project abandonment, citing the credibility of the FHA as a partner.
