At least 24 individuals have been confirmed dead, with several others injured, following a suicide bomb attack carried out by a female terrorist in the town of Konduga, located approximately 36 kilometres from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

The Borno State Police Command, in confirming the incident, stated that the attack occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Friday, 20th June 2025, when the suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at a popular food establishment where residents had gathered in large numbers to purchase food.

According to police sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the powerful blast resulted in the immediate deaths of 24 people, including both men and women, while an unspecified number of others sustained varying degrees of injuries. The body of the attacker was dismembered by the explosion, with only her head recovered at the scene.

In the aftermath of the attack, a joint security team, comprising personnel from the Military, Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal and Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) units, Tactical Teams, the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters, responded swiftly to secure the area.

The entire vicinity was cordoned off and thoroughly searched for additional explosives, but no further devices were discovered. Authorities have since restored calm to the area.

Injured victims were promptly evacuated to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) for medical treatment. The remains of the deceased were also taken to the hospital mortuary, where medical personnel confirmed the fatalities.
