In a bid to boost food production and support local agriculture, the Chairman of Kamrum Integrated Farms, Mr. Rijo Shekari, has donated two truckloads of fertilizer to farming communities in Zango-Kataf and Jaba Local Government Areas of Kaduna State.
According to Mr. Shekari, the donation is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative and a targeted effort to assist smallholder farmers ahead of the 2025 rainy season.
While handing over, Rijo emphasized the vital role grassroots farmers play in Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
“Our farmers are the backbone of the economy, and without adequate support, food security will remain a challenge. This donation is meant to encourage them and boost productivity this planting season,” he stated.
He acknowledged the soaring cost of agricultural inputs, noting that many rural farmers struggle to afford fertilizer despite its importance in enhancing crop yields.
“We’re aware that fertilizer is expensive, and many of these farmers cannot afford it. This donation will make a real difference this year,” he added.
Some of the beneficiaries described the support as a lifeline for rural farmers grappling with rising input costs and climate-related challenges.
“This is the first time many of us are receiving this kind of support from the private sector, adding it shows that people like Rijo understand our struggles and are willing to help,” he said.
Rijo further reiterated his commitment to agricultural development and revealed plans for future initiatives, including farmer training programs, seed distribution, and partnerships with local cooperatives.
PUNCH reports that with Nigeria facing rising food inflation and insecurity, initiatives such as this are viewed as essential to revitalizing rural economies and ensuring long-term food sufficiency.
