The Labour Party said it stands in solidarity with the Nigerian people and their fundamental right to protest, but disassociate it’s presidential candidate Peter Obi as the organiser.
The party said they are making it clear that their platform and their Presidential candidate are not involved in the planned ‘EndBadGovernance’ protest.

The party said it noticed a tweet circulating, allegedly from one of the presidential aides, Mr Bayo Onanuga, linking the Labour Party, their national leader Peter Obi, and other party members to the proposed protest.
A statement issued by their national publicity secretary Obiora Ifoh, LP categorically states that the tweet is baseless and fabricated, created by someone’s imagination.

“The Labour Party has always been a peaceful party, consistently advocating for peace in all circumstances. We are not associated with any form of lawlessness, as demonstrated after the last general election.
“Therefore, it is absurd to link our supporters to the planned protest. We want to emphasize that the Labour Party, Peter Obi, and our supporters have no intention of organizing any protests,” the party said.

LP insisted that it is a well-known fact that peaceful protests around the world are driven and executed by the people, not the opposition.

“The protests in Kenya, Egypt, and other places were direct expressions of the people’s frustration with their respective governments. The right to protest is a constitutional right that belongs to the people.

“Blaming the opposition for the current state of bad governance in Nigeria is misguided and futile. We believe that Nigeria can still achieve positive change if the right policies are implemented.
“We urge some aides of the presidency to exercise caution and refrain from making inflammatory statements that could further divide the nation in the name of politics,” LP said.

The Labour Party insisted that it supports the Nigerian people in their quest for good governance and will continue to advocate for their rights and welfare. Together, we can work towards a better future for our nation,” the party added.
