Ekiti 2026: Oyebanji crushes opposition to secure landslide win

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured a commanding re-election victory in Ekiti State, polling 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who managed just 40,543 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially declared the winner on Sunday in Ado-Ekiti. Prof. Adenike Oladiji, the Chief Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, confirmed that Oyebanji met all statutory requirements and was duly returned as elected.

 

According to the final tabulation, the election recorded 988,251 registered voters, with 384,949 accredited across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas. Prof. Oladiji noted that 382,109 votes were cast, while 6,332 ballots were rejected.

 

Oyebanji’s victory was comprehensive, as he swept all 16 LGAs. He posted his highest margins in Ado-Ekiti (38,026 votes), Ikole (26,508), and Ijero (25,506), while also delivering commanding performances in Ekiti West, Irepodun/Ifelodun, and Oye constituencies.

 

Reacting to the outcome, Sen. Cyril Fasuyi, the APC Collation Agent, called on opposition candidates to embrace sportsmanship and rally behind the governor’s developmental agenda. “In every contest, there will only be one winner. Nobody is a loser; it is simply an opportunity for everyone to come on board and support the governor in his drive for progress,” he told journalists.

 

With this emphatic mandate, Oyebanji is set to steer the state for another term, bolstered by a sweeping cross-LGA endorsement from the electorate.
