Former All Progressives Congress (APC) National Women Leader, Hajia Salamatu Baiwa Umar-Eluma, has been honoured with the naming of a newly developed female hostel at Heritage International College, Agbeji, Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The facility was commissioned yesterday by the educationist and philanthropist who founded the institution, Mr Dansofo Ijaja, in recognition of Hajia Umar-Eluma’s contributions to women’s empowerment, youth development and girl-child education.
In her remarks, Hajia Umar-Eluma expressed profound gratitude for the gesture, describing it as a testament to the transformative power of resilience and purpose.
“I am deeply moved by this recognition of my impact on women, youth and especially the girl child,” she said. “This gesture is a testament to the fact that my journey, from a girl child with humble beginnings to the woman I am today, can inspire another generation to achieve great things and make a meaningful impact on society.”
The commissioning ceremony drew a distinguished audience comprising students, parents, teachers, traditional rulers and community leaders. The occasion also featured the recognition of outstanding students who excelled in their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examinations.
Addressing the female students, Hajia Umar-Eluma encouraged them to dream boldly, believe in themselves, and never lower their aspirations on account of their gender.
“I am forever grateful for this honour and for the opportunity to inspire the next generation,” she added. “May these girls grow into confident women who will lead, serve, and make a lasting difference in our world.”
She concluded with an empowering message to the students: “Your dreams are valid. Dream big. Believe. Become.”
