In a dramatic turn of events, the Edo House of Assembly has initiated impeachment proceedings against Deputy Governor Philip Shuaibu, led by 21 State House of Assembly members.
Allegations of “gross misconduct” have surfaced against Shuaibu, following his orchestration of a parallel Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary in the state, sparking political tension.
Despite the absence of detailed accusations, Shuaibu’s once-strong alliance with Governor Godwin Obaseki has deteriorated, leading to speculations of underlying political discord driving the impeachment move.
The State House of Assembly, comprised of 24 members, requires a two-thirds majority to impeach the Deputy Governor, signalling significant support within the legislative body with 21 members endorsing the impeachment notice.
