The Director General of the National Orientation Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, on Saturday urged Nigerians to embrace love, tolerance and unity during the Easter season.

In a statement signed by the agency’s Deputy Director, Communications and Media, Paul Odenyi, the NOA boss said Easter symbolises sacrifice, reconciliation and renewed hope.

He called on citizens to reflect these values in their daily interactions, regardless of faith, ethnicity or political affiliation.

Issa-Onilu described the current period as critical in Nigeria’s history, stressing that the nation’s strength lies in its diversity and shared commitment to unity and prosperity.

He, however, warned that terrorists and criminal elements remain the greatest threat to national cohesion.

The NOA chief cited recent bomb attacks in Maiduguri during Ramadan and the assault on the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos on Palm Sunday as evidence of the dangers posed by such groups.

He assured Nigerians that the Federal Government was intensifying efforts to combat insecurity and restore peace across the country.

Issa-Onilu appealed to Christians and Muslims to remain united, noting that terrorists and their sponsors are common enemies seeking to divide the populace.

He urged religious leaders, traditional rulers and community stakeholders to promote peace, tolerance and mutual respect.

The DG also tasked the media and civil society with countering hate speech and divisive narratives often exploited by extremists.
