Dr Umar D. Duhu has rejected allegations made by activist Omoyele Sowore that Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, allocated billions of naira to Boko Haram militants.

In a statement on Tuesday, Duhu described the claims as “scurrilous, defamatory and libellous,” insisting they were a deliberate attempt to tarnish the governor’s reputation.

He stressed that all government spending in Borno follows strict budgeting and vetting processes, in line with procurement laws and regulations. “At no point has Governor Zulum released funds to Boko Haram or so-called repentant militants without due process,” he said.

Duhu explained that reintegration programmes are carefully supervised to ensure public safety and stability. He added that individuals recently arrested were not innocent youths, but people involved in activities that threatened peace and security in the state.

He dismissed suggestions that Governor Zulum was “pampering terrorists,” insisting instead that the governor was committed to upholding the law and safeguarding Borno residents.

“Sowore’s claims are blatant lies,” Duhu said. “They damage not just the governor’s good name but also the image of the people of Borno.”

The former lawmaker warned that Sowore and his associates could face legal action if they continued to spread what he called false and malicious information.

Duhu also urged the public to disregard misinformation and support Governor Zulum’s efforts to restore peace, stability, and development in the state.
