Officers and men of the Directorate of Road Traffic Services, Jabi Command, have applauded the appointment of Mallam Abubakar Yeldu as the new Director of the FCT DRTS.

During a visit to the command, traffic affairs reporter Taiye Ayoola of the Global Information Team observed a jubilant atmosphere, with staff expressing appreciation to the FCT authorities for what they described as a timely decision.

Some officers, who spoke on condition of anonymity, urged the new director to prioritise resolving the persistent number plate challenges, saying the current online collection system had failed to address availability issues.

They also appealed to Yeldu to pursue the pending court case at the Court of Appeal in order to restore the full operational powers of the directorate.

The personnel further called for improved staff welfare, including better overtime arrangements and other incentives to boost morale.

They asked for collective support for the new director to ensure his success, while also urging him to press the Federal Road Safety Corps to speed up the issuance of drivers’ licences, which they said currently take too long to be delivered.
