Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, has been celebrated by the people of the Mambilla Plateau during his recent tour of the region.
Accompanied by his wife and a distinguished delegation, Dogara was received by the Secretary to the Government of Taraba State, Chief Barr. G. T. Kataps (Ngwii Mambilla), and the Executive Chairman of Sardauna Local Government, Hon. M. J. Umar.
The visit included a stop at the Bang–Tamnya border area linking Nigeria to Cameroon, where the community turned out in large numbers to welcome him.
Dogara expressed admiration for the Plateau’s natural beauty and commended Governor Agbu Kefas for sustaining peace and stability in Taraba State.
He noted that the calm atmosphere has created opportunities for growth and development, while emphasizing that the Plateau’s mineral resources, fertile soil, and favorable climate could serve as a major contributor to Nigeria’s food security if properly harnessed.
He also praised the peaceful coexistence among the Plateau’s diverse communities, describing it as a model for national unity.
The former Speaker further applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the improvement in security across the North East. He observed that the confidence people have in the President’s efforts accounted for the historic number of citizens who travelled home for end-of-year celebrations, which he described as a clear sign of renewed trust in government.
On behalf of the community, the Acting Mbondua of Mbamnga, Alh. Abubakar Sale Ndula, expressed joy at hosting Dogara and his wife.
He recalled following Dogara’s public service through newspapers and television, and described the visit as a proud moment for the Chiefdom.
He also thanked President Tinubu for awarding the Gembu–Mbamnga–Yang–Lip Road project, stressing that the people of Sardauna Local Government remain deeply grateful for this transformative initiative.
Hon. M. J. Umar, Chairman of Sardauna Local Government, described the visit as a privilege during his tenure, noting Dogara’s positive impact on Nigerians nationwide.
The tour was crowned with the symbolic presentation of the Kam-Kam, a traditional bag, to Dogara and his wife, representing the Plateau’s rich cultural heritage.
The event was graced by dignitaries including Hon. Abdulazeez Suleiman Titong, Member representing Gembu Constituency; Hon. Nelson C. Len, Member representing Nguroje Constituency; and Hon.
