Djibouti Honours Prof. Badejo For Role In Somali Peace

The Government of Djibouti has conferred its prestigious National Order of 27 June 1977 on Prof. Babafemi Adesina Badejo, Lead Consultant at Yintab Strategy Consults, in recognition of his contributions to peace in Somalia.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser to the Lead Consultant, Ameh Abraham, Prof. Badejo, who retired from the United Nations in 2017, has continued his commitment to peacebuilding in the Horn of Africa.

The statement read in part:”Prof. Badejo was decorated by Djibouti’s Prime Minister, Abdoulkader Kamil Mohamed, on behalf of President Ismail Omar Guelleh, during a ceremony that celebrated his pivotal role at the historic Arta Peace Conference 25 years ago.

“The Arta Peace Conference laid the foundation for Somalia’s current governance structure after years of conflict and instability.

“Also honoured with the same Order was Kenya’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mohamed Abdi Affey, who participated in the Arta process as then President Daniel Arap Moi’s Special Envoy.

“The author of Somalia Just Before Al-Shabaab: Why Peace Was Elusive, a widely regarded analytical work documenting Somalia’s long search for stability and the lessons from the Arta peace efforts.”
