A faction within the Federal Capital Territory’s Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) has defended the appointment of Mrs Deborah Osho as acting director, dismissing criticisms over her succession.

Mr Ikilamah Usman, a transport expert with the FCT Traffic Stakeholders Forum, said Osho’s emergence followed due discretion by the former director, Dr Abdul Lateef Bello, and not merely seniority on the nominal roll.

He was reacting to a recent newspaper publication that questioned the handover process and suggested irregularities in the succession.

“Interim handing over is always at the discretion of people in charge, not just seniority,” Usman argued, citing examples where even the president delegated authority to trusted aides instead of the vice president.

He described Osho, the former deputy director of operations, as “capable, punctual and gallant”, highlighting her role in joint task operations as proof of her competence.

According to him, critics of her appointment were “baseless and myopic”, given the internal challenges confronting the directorate, including indiscipline, disunity and lack of cohesion.

“No right-thinking leader would fold his or her arms and let that continue,” Usman said.

The forum urged the FCT minister to disregard what it called “the antics of detractors” and rally support for Osho’s leadership.
