On Thursday, Aliko Dangote, Chairman of the Dangote Group, referred to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals Complex as a brainchild of President Bola Tinubu during the president’s visit to the Lagos facility.
“It is a great honour to welcome Your Excellency to the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals Complex and to inaugurate this concrete road and additional roads approved by you,” Mr Dangote stated.
He pointed out that the complex is largely a manifestation of Mr Tinubu’s vision. “The Lekki Free Trade Zone, which hosts this industrial complex, was established under your leadership as governor of Lagos. Today, Your Excellency, you are witnessing the realisation of that vision,” he noted.
Mr Dangote described Mr Tinubu as a visionary leader and remarked, “What you have observed today is just the beginning; we are only getting started.”
He identified the ‘Naira for Crude Policy’ as one of the Tinubu administration’s most impactful initiatives, highlighting its role in demonstrating the government’s commitment to economic recovery and national sovereignty.
“This courageous policy has allowed us to consistently lower product prices and ensure availability for the benefit of all Nigerians. It has significantly stabilised the prices of petrol, diesel, jet fuel, LPG, and polypropylene to unprecedented levels,” Mr Dangote elaborated.
He also praised the recent introduction of the ‘Nigeria First Policy,’ which seeks to minimise dependence on foreign goods and services while promoting local consumption and investment.
“This aligns with our group’s vision of producing what we consume to achieve self-sufficiency in meeting the fundamental needs of our citizens. Importation leads to poverty and job losses. We must collectively support the ‘Nigeria First’ initiative,” Mr Dangote concluded.
