The Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has set a new benchmark, generating N28.1 billion in a single day – its highest ever 24-hour revenue collection.

Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, the command’s Area Controller, announced the feat in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lagos by Public Relations Officer Isah Sulaiman. The record surpasses the previous peak of N20.1 billion achieved in September 2025.

Comptroller Oshoba attributed the milestone to ongoing reforms, enhanced trader compliance, and improved operational efficiency at the port. He noted that the command had already generated N323 billion in July, underscoring a sustained upward trajectory.

“This achievement reflects the dividends of trade facilitation, intelligence-driven interventions, and the growing efficiency of our digital customs processes,” he said.

Emphasising the broader significance of revenue generation, the Comptroller stressed that collections underpin critical public services.

“Funds from customs revenue finance infrastructure, security, education, healthcare, and other priorities that directly affect the daily lives of Nigerians,” he stated.

Dedicating the record to the nation, Comptroller Oshoba praised Comptroller-General Dr Bashir Adeniyi for his unwavering support of modernisation efforts, and lauded management’s drive toward automation and a more business-friendly operational climate.

He also commended compliant importers, exporters, licensed agents, and other stakeholders for their cooperation, while acknowledging citizens who provided actionable intelligence.

“Every compliant transaction strengthens our national development agenda. Stakeholders should continue to support legitimate trade – a stronger revenue base empowers government to better respond to the people’s needs,” he urged.

Looking ahead, Comptroller Oshoba cautioned officers against complacency, framing the record as a call to greater responsibility. He directed that revenue collection must proceed alongside trade facilitation, professionalism, transparency, and stakeholder respect.

He further instructed that legitimate disputes be resolved expeditiously, ensuring customs procedures do not unduly impede lawful commerce.

Reaffirming the command’s resolve, he pledged sustained momentum through enhanced revenue generation, seamless trade facilitation, and deeper stakeholder collaboration in the national interest.
