The Coalition of Patriots for National Development (COPAN) has lauded the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his transformative leadership, transparency, and professionalism since his appointment by the Tinubu administration.
Barrister Uchenna Odieli, COPAN’s Coordinator, in a statement on Wednesday, highlighted Adeniyi’s humility, adherence to rules, and significant contributions to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
As the agency’s longest-serving spokesperson, Adeniyi has improved its image and operational efficiency, Odieli said.
One of the notable reforms under his leadership is the modernization of the customs auction system, which now operates through a transparent online platform.
This development has bolstered public confidence in the process and benefited authorized auctioneers.
Adeniyi’s administration has also recorded significant successes in combating smuggling, particularly the interception of illegal arms at Idiroko border, Onne Seaport, and Jibia border areas.
These achievements have been attributed to the zero-tolerance policy on corruption championed by his leadership.
Odieli further praised Adeniyi for fostering teamwork within the Customs Service, which has resulted in a substantial increase in revenue generation.
Staff welfare has also improved, with enhanced allowances and capacity-building programs boosting morale and productivity.
COPAN described Adeniyi as a role model and a beacon of hope for the nation. The group appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to extend his tenure to enable him to continue driving critical reforms within the Customs Service.
“Your exemplary service is a shining example of dedication, perseverance, and patriotism. We are forever grateful for your tireless efforts and unwavering commitment to our nation,” the statement read.
Adeniyi’s tenure has been widely celebrated as a period of transformation, reinforcing the Nigeria Customs Service’s role as a vital institution in the country’s economic development.
