CLEEN Foundation, with support from the Norwegian Embassy and UN Women, has trained over 50 women mediators from Plateau and Kaduna States.

The one-day event, held at City Den Hotel, Kaduna, on Monday, September 9th, aimed at strengthening women’s capacity in advocacy, conflict resolution, and mediation practices.

Under the theme “Women Peace Builders Mediators Network,” the program sought to equip women with professional knowledge and tools for mediating disputes within their families and communities. Sa’adatu Hamma, the Deputy Director of the Kaduna Multi-Door Courthouse, led the training, emphasizing the natural role women play in mediation.

“Women are natural mediators, even in their homes, resolving conflicts between children and family members. This training provides an opportunity for women to professionalize their mediation skills and offer their services to the community,” Hamma remarked.

She stressed the importance of having more women engage in mediation, highlighting that peace and stability in homes and communities largely depend on the active role of women. “When women embrace mediation, they contribute to conflict resolution, stability, and progress, not just in Kaduna but globally,” she added.

The training covered various Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) techniques, including mediation, arbitration, native law and customs, trauma healing, and restorative justice. Participants were also introduced to digital tools and platforms for peacebuilding, a crucial aspect of modern ADR practices.

Mrs. Dorcas Lewy Daniel, Director of the Multi-Door Courthouse, discussed the integration of digital tools in ADR, emphasizing how technology can enhance peacebuilding efforts in conflict resolution.

The program underscored the importance of women taking advantage of this training to improve their skills and create peaceful, harmonious communities. Hamma encouraged participants to continue learning and applying these techniques in their everyday lives.

The CLEEN Foundation, with its partners, remains committed to empowering women as peacebuilders and mediators, ensuring a more stable and peaceful society for all.
