The Concerned Christian Youth Forum (CCYF) has called on the youth of Benue State to rise and protect their lives and ancestral lands with unwavering resolve, as violence continues to ravage the region.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, CCYF Convener James Paul Adama expressed deep alarm over what he described as the “systematic extermination” of innocent civilians in Benue.
“The suffering of the Benue people is a tragic reminder of our collective failure to shield them from those perpetuating violence and chaos,” Adama said, condemning the ongoing atrocities that have claimed countless lives.
The statement comes in the wake of a recent attack on Yelwata, which has left communities reeling from loss and destruction.
The CCYF extended its condolences to the victims’ families and the wider Benue population, praying for strength and resilience in these trying times.
Adama also called on Benue’s political leaders to set aside differences and unite in addressing the crisis.
“No political ambition justifies sacrificing the lives of your people,” he said, urging leaders to prioritise peace and prosperity for the state.
The forum further appealed to security agencies to intensify efforts to apprehend those responsible for the attacks and ensure justice is served.
“The blood of our brothers and sisters cries out from the ground,” Adama stated, describing the violence as a “deafening condemnation” of the inaction of those in power.
The CCYF reaffirmed its solidarity with the people of Benue, pledging to work towards accountability for the perpetrators of these “heinous acts.”
