The foremost organisation of, and for persons with disabilities in Nigeria, Centre for Citizens with Disabilities (CCD) has appointed Mrs. Florence Austin as the Interim Head of the organisation pending the appointment of a substantive head of the organization.

The appointment of Mrs. Austin follows the appointment of the Founding Executive Director of CCD, Mr. David Anyaele as the Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Persons with Disabilities.

In a press statement issued at the end of the Board of Trustees meeting, CCD Board stated that they received with excitement the news of the appointment of Mr. David O. Anyaele, the Founding Executive Director of the organization as the Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Persons with Disabilities.

“The Board appreciates the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex C. Otti OFR for finding our Founding Executive Director credible to serve in his government as his Special Assistant on Persons with Disabilities which is a testament and recognition of the work CCD has done in promoting the rights, inclusion, and participation of citizens with disabilities in democratic governance”.

“Recognising that this is a critical moment and an unusual conjunction in our history as an organisation, in which transition is taking place within short notice; considering that the appointment took the organisation by surprise, and the transition process that might take some time to conclude;”

The CCD Board calls for the cooperation and understanding of its Partners and stakeholders, while requesting their Partners to kindly note that the Founding Executive Director will always be there to provide support where necessary even as they go through the transition process.

“The Board of Trustees assures our Partners that the Board of Trustees is always hands-on in all decision-making processes regarding our projects”. The Founding Executive Director of CCD will be going for a leave of absence pending the completion of his assignment with the Abia State Government.
