By Ankeli Emmanuel, Sokoto

BUA Cement Nigeria Plc, Monday in Sokoto launched a 6 months training and certification for 60 youths of host communities on heavy duty machines operation.

The initiative, which is a continuation of BUA’s host community empowerment programme, will also involve allowance of 150,000 for each of the 60 participants within the training period.
Addressing the 60 participating host community youths, BUA’s Managing Director, Engr Yusuf Haliru Binji said the initiative was part of their numerous ways of placing priority on host community employability.
Engineer Binji who was represented by the Plant Director, Aminu Bashir said they are committed to assisting communties closed to their operations.
“We just selected 60 for a start. Reasons for these initiative was that most often, when we advertised for job opportunities, a good number of those qualified comes from outside the state because host communties do not often have the required qualification or expertise.
“And to help bring them on board, we have crafted this window to ensure that we train them on heavy duty machines such as pay-loaders, excavators and the host of others for 6 months.
“BUA will be paying each of the 60 trainees a monthly allowance of 150,000. And after the training, they are at liberty to either accept working with BUA or work elsewhere. Though, working with BUA will also depend on their commitment to the training, proficiency in handling the machines and display of good character within the period”, Engr Binji enthused.
While adding that the
programme will not be a one off thing, BUA’s MD assured that the company  hopes to continue with the initiative.
“We are also using this avenue to appeal to the immediate host communties and state government to sustain the cordial working relationship”.
Speaking on his part, the Human Resources Director of BUA Cement Plc,
Andulrasheed Bode said the initiative was a well thought out one that involve a month class room teaching on safety  and other precautionary measures before embarking on the practicals for the remaining months.
Lending his voice to the initiative, BUA’s Head of Quary Operations, Engr Chinoko Danladi said, those selected should consider themselves very lucky and not take the chance for granted.
Responding to the initiative, one of the 60 beneficiaries, Attahiru Alhaji Ladan Asada thanked BUA Cement Plc for the opportunity, promising they will be of good behaviour during and after the training.
