Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has formally declared his intention to run for the presidency in 2027 under the banner of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Speaking at a rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the state capital, Makinde made the announcement amid growing political realignments involving factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the next general election.
“I, Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, Excellency, announce my candidacy for the position of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
Earlier, the governor had led the Taminu Turaki faction of the PDP in Oyo State to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the APM, marking a strategic alliance for the upcoming polls.
Under the agreement, candidates from the PDP faction contesting for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly seats are expected to run on the APM platform rather than the PDP in 2027.
