In a resounding declaration of gratitude, the coastal aborigines of Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River States (BRAC) stand firmly behind former Nigeria’s military Head of State, Gen Yakubu Gowon, hailing him as their hero.

According to the BRAC communities, General Yakubu Gowon stands as a hero, akin to the Holy Spirit, for his pivotal role in creating the BRAC states out of the former Eastern Region Government, responding to the heartfelt pleas of their ancestors.

The General Coordinator of BRAC Coastal Aborigines, Doris McDaniels, vehemently opposes calls for General Gowon to apologise over his involvement in the civil war, denouncing the allegations as baseless.

McDaniels criticises Igbo apex groups Ohaneze Ndigbo and Indigenous People of Biafra for demanding an apology from General Gowon, asserting that the General’s efforts were instrumental in ensuring peace and safeguarding the BRAC Coastal areas from the ravages of war.

While acknowledging the complexities of the civil war era, the BRAC coastal aborigines appeal to General Gowon to disregard the false narratives propagated by certain groups and extend forgiveness, reaffirming their unwavering appreciation for his leadership during tumultuous times.
